SUMMENSA
Choose the task before choosing the model.
A useful AI project starts with a task worth improving: finding information, preparing a document or reducing repetitive work. SUMMENSA defines the workflow, builds the appropriate implementation and evaluates its output with human reviewers.

Information has always needed a structure.
This close view of magnetic-core memory is a historical reference to a physical information architecture. Contemporary AI introduces different constraints, but still needs explicit representations, access boundaries and evaluation. The image is neither a model diagram nor evidence of deployed SUM VISUM computing capacity.

Delivery / evidence
Client value and delivery
The customer problem
AI use cases without clear sources, evaluation criteria or human accountability.
Intended outcome
A bounded AI decision or prototype with documented evidence and known limitations.
How acceptance is agreed
Define permitted sources, representative evaluation cases, error categories and human escalation. Compare outputs against the agreed rubric and report failures as well as useful results.
Delivery prerequisites
Source permissions, permitted data, evaluation responsibility and approved infrastructure must be confirmed. External model costs or provider activation require separate authorization.
SEDO: conversational AI and local source guidance
Try SEDO with “translation and localization” or “SUMAGRI offline application”. Inspect the linked website sources. This demonstrates local source retrieval, not external generative AI, autonomous action or a customer deployment.
SEDO01 / Purpose
Turn a defined task and reliable source material into an AI workflow people can evaluate and supervise.
The operating context
A shared intelligence layer is an architectural remit, not a claim that every division already runs on one deployed platform. Domain knowledge remains specialised; retrieval, language handling, evaluation and controlled automation provide the connections.
A closer reading
The model is one layer of the system.
Compute, authorised data, retrieval, evaluation and human decisions have different operating constraints. SUMMENSA’s remit is to make their interfaces explicit: what enters a model, how an answer is checked, and which actions remain under human control.
02 / Intelligence in practice
The system around the model.
SUMMENSA’s research covers retrieval-augmented systems, task routing, model comparison and permission-bound automation. Tests must measure unsupported answers, missed evidence, latency and cost as well as task success. Data minimisation, access isolation and human escalation are architecture requirements. A shared AI platform has not been released.
03 / Domain architecture
Strategic scope describes the division’s field. Products and initiatives have their own development status; no unannounced service or product is offered.
| Responsibility | Design requirements |
|---|---|
| Knowledge systems | Source selection, indexing, retrieval and provenance determine what a model can responsibly use. The architecture must separate public reference material, restricted organisational data and content that is too uncertain to support an answer. |
| Language intelligence | Terminology, multilingual retrieval and culturally grounded interaction extend beyond translation. Lower-resource languages require their own data permissions, evaluation examples and human review; fluency alone does not establish comprehension. |
| Automation and decision support | A workflow needs explicit inputs, allowed tools, approval points and failure behaviour. AI can organise evidence or prepare an action; decisions with material consequences need an accountable person and a record of what the system used. |
| A shared layer needs boundaries | Retrieval, language processing, workflow orchestration and evaluation can share components across divisions. Patient information, legal documents and farm records cannot share unrestricted data access. Tenant separation, least privilege and source permissions must persist through indexing, retrieval and generated output. |
| Choose the smallest adequate model system | Model selection starts with the task: retrieval may answer a navigation question without generation; structured rules may be preferable for a deterministic check. Research compares task accuracy, latency, language coverage, cost and failure behaviour. A release also needs versioned prompts, representative evaluations, abuse controls and an accountable operator. |
04 / Evidence & evaluation
From definition to validation
Evaluation should use representative tasks and documented failure cases. Versioned datasets, model changes, permission tests and human review criteria make experiments comparable. Cross-division reuse must preserve the boundaries of health, legal and other specialised information.
Define the task, authorised knowledge and decision boundary.
Build a reference set and compare candidate architectures.
Test failures, permissions and operating cost before integration.
05 / Access by design
Language is part of system behaviour.
International and African languages need content governance, terminology and evaluation in context. Device capability and bandwidth determine which functions can run locally. A system must state when it is retrieving stored information, calling a remote model or unable to complete a task.

06 / Product status
In DevelopmentResearch — reusable AI components, multilingual knowledge systems and workflow prototypes. SEDO’s website AI integration and local search are implemented as a separate division capability; they are not a proprietary SUMMENSA model service.
07 / System relationships
Connected divisions
SUMTECH provides the infrastructure perspective. SUMMEDIC and SUMAGRI define domain-specific information and access requirements. SUM LABS, across the wider ecosystem, turns AI proposals into measurable experiments before any deployment decision.
